Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief

Back of Book:
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Rating:
Profanity: mild (mostly reference to mythological gods and goddesses)
Sensuality: none
Violence: some epic battles, but not a lot of gruesome details

M: If you are a fan of mythology, like me, you will love this book. It has all you could ask from a fantasy series; adventures, warring titans, larger than life gods and goddesses, brave heroes and heroines and of course a little touch of romance in the air. Rick Riordan did a fantastic job of making ancient myths come alive for a new era and generation. Check out Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as well as his new series, Heroes of Olympus. The Percy Jackson books focus on Greek mythology, while  Heroes of Olympus allows the author to show off his knowledge of Roman mythology.

C: I am not a fan of mythology but I did like this book. It was not one of my favorites, though. I like the 3rd one better because Nico di Angelo comes into the story. He is so mine K.!

N. I like learning about the different cultures and the kinds of gods they served. Reading this book taught me a lot more about mythology that I didn't know. I really liked following along on the adventure with Percy. Percy is a strong willed boy that might at first seem like a runner but he as his character develops he becomes stronger and stands and fights. In this book I must say I love the friendship that comes together in this book. Percy meets some strong friends that i'm sure will stand by his side through death itself and defeat the largest of trials. All in all it was a good book :)

Special Guest Star! Our little brother read this book and just had to give his review.
A: It was a fun adventure. I felt bad for Percy. Much better than the movie! My favorite part of the book was when Percy fights Ares (the god of war). It shows that sometimes wiser is stronger than strength. I really liked the book and other people should read it!
